Philosophy

"Every organization is wrestling with a similar dilemma – how to maintain its identity, purpose and effectiveness as it copes with relentless turbulence and change "
~ Margaret Wheatley, Leadership and the New Science
Our society has shifted from an industrial-based culture to an information-based culture, making an organization’s ability to rapidly respond to change the new indicator for success and sustainability. Our premises for leadership have also shifted, resulting in a greater acknowledgement and respect for gender and cultural diversity and human-centered management. The difficulty of this shift lies in the articulation of an expanded definition and distribution of leadership.

Kevin’s philosophy, Working in the Hyphen®, is based on these premises, synthesizing the East Asian theory of the Five Elements, Native Hawaiian traditions and values, proven business approaches to leadership and organizational development, and the world of New Science.

Organizations are comprised of people. Therefore the concepts and systems of any organization must reflect and accommodate the diversity, complexity and potential of the people who create and sustain it. With this in mind, Kevin’s philosophy, approaches and strategies are organic and flexible, making them extremely effective and sustainable in this information-based culture.

Mission
To work with communities, organizations and individuals to clarify identity and purpose, establish alignment of principles and culture, and design structures that will propel passion toward implementing effective strategies.

Goals:
"Kevin has an amazing ability to take very complex and broad concepts and break them down into clear, tangible action items. As a teller of stories and a keeper of tradition he is able to both engage and motivate a diverse group of individuals toward a similar vision, resulting in concrete outcomes."
